Springbank - Aged 12 Years Campbelltown

Springbank is one of only 3 remaining distilleries in the whisky producing region of Campbeltown - once a hive of whisky distillation. Due to the exposed, coastal location of the town, Campbeltown (240km south-west of Glasgow) whiskies have their own distinct character defined particularly by an oily, briny quality. The 12 Year Old Cask Strength releases from Campbeltown often included a mix of maturation casks, predominantly ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. The 2023 release has a fair whack of ex-sherry casks in the mix resulting in a hit of toffee and chocolate on the palate. A mixture of different fruit characteristics (apricot, raisins and oranges) also speak of the sherry cask maturation. This is another great addition of the 12 Year Old Cask Strength releases. Nose = Fruit compote, garden herbs, espresso and citrus with some winter spice.
Palate = Berry fruits, dark fruits and pecan pie, cured meats, shortbread and garden herbs.
Finish = Dark chocolate mints, espresso and wine gums
